ARTIST STATEMENT
My filmwork is predominantly focussed on Film Poems – using my own poetry and filmed / found material. I also create sound-music tracks for the films – alone and as collaborations.
My picture-making is largely wrapped around digital photography – which often departs from the single image and uses multiple layers – I see these pictures as palimpsests. This can also incorporate my analogue line-drawing and painting.
Through my poetry I am able to wrestle with words and silence, and sometimes find places/spaces where the two agree to work together.
As an artist I use this variety of mediums to interface with life around me and life within me. My art is a bridge between the invisible and the visible – between the absence of words and their presence. In my art I express and reveal my thoughts and feelings about being alive.
Ambiguity is the quality in art and life I have always been most drawn to. Ambiguity is the space and place I feel most at home with – which is often reflected in my art.
