That Day at Our Back
We waited waited again
We fell under the spell of wanting
Under the deepest-purpled lilac
Under uncalled-for night dreams
In our time we believed believed
In vast futures/high sky above prairie or butte
Next to clouds that erase themselves
Among the landscapes beyond borders
Love is the current
We paddle we drift we turn to see
That day at our back waving.
