ARTIST STATEMENT
My work in printmaking—spanning monotypes, woodcuts, and etchings—explores abstraction through a focus on formal composition and design. I am interested in how line, shape, and texture can function independently of representation, creating visual structures that emphasize balance, rhythm, and spatial relationships.
Each process I engage with brings its own language and constraints. The immediacy of monotype contrasts with the deliberation of woodcut and etching, allowing me to navigate between spontaneity and precision. I use these methods to investigate how repetition, variation, and mark-making can generate dynamic compositions rooted in a strong design sensibility.
Rather than depicting specific subjects, my work prioritizes the organization of visual elements to create a sense of cohesion and tension. Through abstraction, I aim to distill forms to their essential qualities, inviting close attention to detail, surface, and structure. The resulting prints are studies in composition—where meaning emerges through the interaction of form rather than narrative.
