Don Farrell

‍ ‍

this winter

feels like there is always more
time, until there isn’t. the sun sets
and in that last bit
of light you can still see.

i hope it feels warm
for you, that sleepy coma
morphine offers. it’s cold
this week for the rest of us. winter
has landed like a swan shot
over a cornfield.

can’t think beyond
the heartbeat in my face...
i know though
i want to be there
to touch you before
your color fades,
your eyes open
into nothing.
